What Is Sermorelin?
Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone–releasing
hormone (GHRH). Instead of replacing growth hormone directly, it
signals your pituitary gland to release your own GH in natural pulses.
This upstream approach is different from recombinant GH and helps
maintain physiologic rhythms.
Sermorelin was previously FDA-approved under the brand Geref® for
pediatric growth hormone deficiency and as a diagnostic agent. It is no
longer commercially manufactured as an FDA-approved product, but
the FDA determined it was not withdrawn for safety or effectiveness
concerns. Today, it is typically prescribed as a compounded medication.

Yes. Sermorelin is prescription-only. TRAVA’s licensed providers review your history, symptoms, and labs to determine eligibility.
There is no currently marketed FDA-approved Sermorelin product. It was previously sold as Geref®, which the FDA determined was not withdrawn for safety or effectiveness; today it’s generally provided by compounding pharmacies when prescribed.
A tiny subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection, often at night. Most patients find it quick and very tolerable after the first few tries. We include step-by-step guidance.
Timelines vary. Some notice sleep/energy changes within weeks; body-composition and recovery changes, if they occur, take several weeks to months. Your provider will monitor IGF-1 and adjust as appropriate.
The most common are injection-site reactions (redness, itching, tenderness, swelling). Less commonly: dizziness, flushing, headache, sleepiness, nausea, or trouble sitting still. Seek urgent care for signs of severe allergy (hives, facial swelling, breathing difficulty).
It’s not appropriate in pregnancy or breastfeeding, in active cancer, or with untreated hypothyroidism (can blunt response). Your provider will screen for risks and interactions.
No. Sermorelin stimulates your own GH; hGH is synthetic GH replacement. Your clinician will recommend the approach that fits your diagnosis and safety profile.
Keep refrigerated; follow your pharmacy’s label and the instructions provided.
